I've been doing this long enough to know the difference between an advisor who manages your money and one who actually watches out for you. Those are not the same thing.
Early in my career, I'd tell someone when they could retire, or whether buying that new car made sense. Small moments. Real relief. I loved that.
Then came the day I understood what this work could really be. A client was in crisis — scared in a way that makes it hard to see how things will be ok. The situation was complicated. Most advisors would have handed her a plan.
That's not what she needed. She needed me to step into her shoes and be her advocate.
That's when I understood what I was actually here to do. And I haven't approached this work the same way since.
My background isn't just finance. It's communications and human behavior — a genuine curiosity about how people make decisions and what calms their fears. That's why clients don't come to me just for the numbers. They come because they want someone who sees the whole picture and never stops watching it.
